About The Positive Pit Project

Our Mission

My goal for The Positive Pit Project is to help you communicate better with your dog(s). Everything we work on is customized to individual and family needs. I’m here to help you meet your goals in a way that is effective for all humans and dogs. I’m here not to judge you, but to coach you and cheer you on. When we know better, we do better and I want to show you a better way. I want you to be able to work smarter not harder and I truly enjoy working with all of you and your families.

Every person and every dog I work with matters to me. Whether you just want to teach your dog basic cues, need some peace in your home with management strategies, are interested in therapy or service dogs, or an unwanted or severe behavior is creating an emergent need, I want to help.

Another goal I have is to make dog training accessible and affordable to those that need it. I offer buy now, pay later plans and occasional community donors.

Certified Dog Trainer

My name is Megan Manuel and I’m certified by the CCPDT as a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed,and am currently in the process of testing for Certified Canine Behavior Consultant. I am also a certified teacher (PK-3rd) and worked in the school system for 16 years, so I absolutely love including your children where appropriate. I have worked countless hours with rescue and shelter dogs, and still provide training for all of Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue’s foster and adoptive families. I am a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and currently have two service dog/handler teams in training, as well as many teams already working.

I have a wonderful husband Joe and two kids, Westin and Wakely. We live with our dogs Faith, Cabbage, Mildred and Darla.

Board & Train

$95 per day/ $200 Deposit to book

Board and Train is a 10-14 day program where your dog stays in my home, with my family and not in a facility type environment. I will come see you for a consult session to meet your dog and discuss goals so we can work together to create an effective training plan.

Boarding

$30 per day

Private Lesson Packages

4 Session Package $420 ($120.00 Deposit required to book)

One on one sessions (in your home or out and about) that are specific to your goals and family needs, scheduled at your convenience. All family members can participate (where appropriate). One on one helps identify target behaviors as they happen, with instant feedback on what to do and how to do it.

Special Care Boarding

$50.00 per day

Everyone deserves a vacation, so I offer specialized boarding for dogs who cannot board anywhere else due to behavior or medical needs.

Other Services

$425.00 Package

Camp PPP-age appropriate curriculum for families with children on how to work with the family dog. Camp PPP runs Monday-Friday in your home (parents must be present on property) for an hour and a half each day. Children can learn how to teach basic cues and play games with their dog. Checklists, homework and videos are given. A follow up session is included 4-6 weeks after camp to ensure success.

Policies & Requirements

Private Lessons: For all new clients, deposit must be made to book. Remaining balance is due on the first session.

Board and Train: Deposit must be paid to book. Cancellations must be made at least 14 days before drop off date or you will not be refunded your deposit. Rescheduling is permitted, but there may be additional wait time.

Vaccinations are required by state law.

-Rabies, distemper, bordetella, parvo, along with a negative fecal exam no longer than a month prior to their stay.

An emergency contact is needed to be available to pick up your pup for boarding in the event of a emergency (Hurricane or other such immediate emergencies) and you are unable to quickly retrieve your fur kid.

Do you only work with Pit Bulls or Bully Breeds?

No. I have experience with MANY breeds of dogs. My business name will always remain as a homage to the pit bull, the most misunderstood breed of dog, and to Faith, the dog that started it all.

How does Board and Train work?

I’ll come see you for a consult session to meet your dog and discuss goals so we can work together to create an effective training plan. Because each pup is different, each plan is different. We cater to each specific pup’s needs according to personality and behavior.

What does my dog learn?

I customize everything but a typical list of skills contains: recall, sit and down, loose leash walking, stay and wait, leave it/drop it, place as well as basic manners (guest manners, no jumping, no nipping, no counter surfing, etc) and how to socialize with other dogs. We can also take field trips (Lowe’s, outdoor restaurant, parks) to work on skills in distracting environments.

How much training time does my dog get?

The average time is 5-7 purposeful sessions working on learning new behaviors throughout the day. I have agility equipment and a dog pool that each dog can use. Daily walks in a neighborhood environment and I also include enrichment and games. Let’s face it what better way to help foster the environment your pup will learn in than an actual home?

That sounds great, but how do I know how to keep this up?

There are several things I do to help you succeed! Videos and detailed homework are provided as well as two follow up sessions with every board and train to make sure everyone is successful.

Because Board & Train should be a 5 star resort experience. We aim to please (the dogs that is)!
